sick kids....

I dont know what is going on but "we" are back to having sick kids. Yuk...I am sick of sick! Jack started it all on Monday and still sounds like a sick seal...Luke is now worse with a fever. Jack has yet another ear infection, tho not super bad. Luke is a bit of a mess...I hadnt realized how bad off he was till today when I talked to my mom and saw him this evening. It does seem that Tylenol and a bit of food has helped a lot as Luke and Jack are now happily playing with blocks...together!

bye, bye plastic

Well, for one of my new years hopes, I had wanted to use less plastic bags... so a few weeks ago I took the plunge and bought reuseable shopping bags from safeway. They are great! I do wish that they were a bit taller to hold more stuff. I think that Trader Joes may have better bags so I will look into getting a few more there. It is so much easier to unpack the car just having to lift the bags over my shoulder. They hold more groceries more safely then plastic bags. I hated it when the plastic bags would rip and out would crash the jam all over the floor.

On a side note, Jack had a little too much birthday fun and now seems to have a cold...

Happy Birthday, my sweet Jack

My Jack is 3 years old today!!
I can not believe how quickly the time has gone.
Jack was very excited about his party with "lots of people"
and kept asking for his birthday cake.

We had a Cars theme...of course.

He got shy when everyone sang to him and needed a bit of help
blowing out the candles. If I hadnt helped he might have spit them out
and no one would want any cake but him....might have been a ploy by him to
eat the whole cake himself.

He thanks everyone for coming and all of his wonderful presents!

Bath time

Luckily the boys like taking baths together.
They are both big fans of water and bubbles.
Jack is not such a fan of having his hair washed...so
I have to put a wash cloth over his face while I douse him
with water.

Luke is the biggest fan. I think water is one of his most
favorite things in the whole world.
Splish splash!

Well, seeing that I do not have very many readers, I will probably not post as much. I really do like doing it so I will keep it up, but I wont feel bad if I miss a few days. I was trying to do 4 or 5 posts a week... Things are really busy with me at work as the reading season is upon us. Jack's 3rd birthday is coming up soon too.

I've been trying to tell if I have any "traffic" on my site and it
is not looking good. Tho it could be that I just cant figure out how
to use the site meter... please let me know if you read this! Comments are nice.

dig

We had dinner and Aunt Kate and Uncle Bills last night. The weather was sooooo beautiful that we sat outside for a bit. The boys had a great time digging in the dirt. If you look closely you can see that Luke has flung dirt into the air and all over himself in the second picture.

It was very cute to see the boys playing together with out fighting for close to 10 minutes.

Oatmeal playdoh

I thought that oatmeal playdoh sounded like a good idea. Jack likes to cook and play with playdoh so i thought it would be a good combination.

Luke could get in on it too with a little stirring and since it is oatmeal it is non toxic so Luke could eat it with out me freaking out and telling him no 50 thousand times.

I found a recipe on the internet and the boys needed a diversion from hitting each other so we gave it a whirl.

What I learned it that oatmeal play doh is very sticky. Jack does not like to get dirty and sticky was hard for him to handle. He kept wanting to wipe his hands off on a towel...make the towels a giant sticky mess. I spray oiled his hands (often) and that made it a bit better.

Luke eventually got bored and wondered off after eating his fill.

Jack managed to stay with it and created

this lovely waterfall? Yep, that is what he calls it..."look at my waterfall, Mommy". Great waterfall, Jack.

Anyway, it never really hardens up and Jack didnt like getting so dirty...so we probably won't do this project again.

Jacks speech

While Jack seems to be talking up a storm, saying funny things and making us wonder where he is picking up these new words...he is tough to understand. Loren and I do a lot of translating. On Tuesday we had a meeting with the SLV school district speech therapist and after playing with Jack for an hour and asking us questions, she is putting him forward for more speech therapy... I had been looking forward to having more free time with the boys when speech therapy stops (services from the state) when he turns 3. Oh well, least I can schedule it for one of my non-working days. We will be saying a sad goodbye to Sarah, the lady who came to play with jack once a week. She is really nice and we will miss her (jack will really miss her Cars game). And move on to a weekly visit to behind SLVHS where Jack will play with new friends. I will do my best to keep tornado Luke out of the way!

the weather

I just have to comment on the weather...it is unreal. This is JANUARY. Early in January and it is like 75 degrees out. I am not complaining, but we really do need the rain...as much as I hate the rain and being stuck in the house with 2 little crazy boys. It was gorgeous yesterday and is predicted thru the end of the week. When my inlaws were here visiting from Washington they left 5 feet of snow and were going back to more snow storms. Global warming is insane.

John Deere

Bring on the tractors...these boys LOVE these little tractors.
Not as much as anything to do with cars, but the tractors are a close second.

Catch up

As always, it has been busy. Last week I had a week long training with nightly homework so i was eating, sleeping and breathing UCSC admissions. Jack got sick at school on Friday and I had to pick him up so I missed training and now have to make something up... Jack has been fine ever since with no more puking. Luke now is sniffling and I am starting to think that maybe he has allergies or life with him is going to be one giant coughing cold.

I never really do new years resolutions, but I thought maybe I would list what I want to do this year. My hopes for 2009.

1. Lose the baby weight. (isnt losing weight everyones resolution every year) I have 2 giant boxes of pre-pregnancy clothes in the garage. If I do not fit in to them by the end of summer I am just going to donate them to good will. I am going to try and eat healthy and get some exercise. I kind of think that my body has changed and I probably wont fit into them even if I do get back to my pre-baby weight. I dont want to beat my self up over it.

2. Learn to use my sewing machine. Recently, I got my grandmas sewing machine and I would love to learn to sew.

3. Do a garden this year. I think it would be fun to get the boys involved in watching the plants grow and maybe it might get them to eat some veges.. We have such a great sunny yard that it almost seems wasteful not to use it to grow yummy tomatoes. Tho if the deer are back it might not work out too well...

4. Take a family vacation to visit Grandma Honey and Grandpop Ron. I want to visit my best friend Jennie in oregon who I never get to see and her family along the way.

5. Use less plastic bags.

Christmas 2008

Christmas morning Jack got many Cars from Santa. He "got it" more this year. We talked about santa, even tho he wouldn't sit on his lap. We put out cookies and egg nog. They both slept in till 7 or so which was great and we had to remind him that it was xmas and that santa had come for a visit. Luke didnt have a clue, but he had a good time.

Christmas eve 2008 - part 2

Here is Luke trying to walk in Grandma Honey's slippers.
He did pretty well and grandma honey got to spend the week hunting for her slippers.

Grandma Trish and Luke who is trying to eat his fist.

Mommy trying to open xmas gifts with children's scissors... and not going quite fast enough for Jack and Luke.

Santa comes to visit Felton every Christmas Eve in the fire truck. It is so cool! Jack was a little freaked out. Big loud truck with giant red man...and it was raining. All the neighbors came out and it was really neat and small townish!

Jacks target practice

In my previous post I mentioned Jack playing a shooting game. I realized now how bad that sounds. Really it is a target practice game and we made sure not to let him "hit" real people or animals. He just shot at old fake wood targets and an occasional pumpkin. We didnt even play any target practice games that hit anything remotely human or animal like while he and luke were in the room. I dont even like the idea of him Wii boxing. Violence is bad, but hitting a bullseye is fun!

Happy New Year

I just want to wish everyone a very happy new year. We had such a great xmas and I will post some pictures soon. This year we headed up to my Dad's for new years eve and amazingly enough we made it to midnight with out any problem. I actually looked at the clock at 11:30 and thought that surely the clock wasnt on the right time. What made time go so fast was playing Wii. I LOVE Wii. My arm is actually sore today from playing baseball. I also love the golf. Jack does too, but his favorite thing to do is hit the ball in the water...so he is not very good, but has a good time. (Jack did not stay up till midnight playing Wii!) They also have a shooting game which is so much better then going to the shooting range. Years ago I went to the shooting range with Jake when he was getting his rifle merit badge and I shot the gun twice and it totally unnerved me and I had to wait out in the car. Wii shooting is much better, tho I am really not that great at it. All in all, it was a very fun time. Too bad Penn State lost the Rose Bowl.
