They boys had their hands over their ears for quite some time...
Anything over a whisper (unless they are making the noise) is cause for alarm and the hands
go over the ears.
Here is the cause of the noise...see how far away that train is?!

Jack can hear a train a mile away, even in the dark of night. What is up with that???? But you are right, noise is fine if they are making it.
