Quick scare

We had a wonderful Memorial weekend. We saw lots of friends and ate lots of food. It ended with a scare tho...

The class roster came out for Lorens school. All of the changes were mentioned for the next year classes including who is filling the "new" positions. The only bad part was that Lorens 3rd grade was not on the list...anywhere, nor was his name. We received a phone call from his IA alerting us to the email and wondering what happened. Loren called the principal, but she wasnt at home. Other teachers had heard nothing. Thankfully, at 9:30pm, the principal called and apoligized for the oversite. I was never so happy to hear the phone ring so late at night! With the budgets and such...i'd still rather see it in writing!

What do you see?!

What could it be?! What is so interesting that the boys have stopped running, stopped jumping, stopped talking???

One quick look at Mom and then it is back to the excitement.
Oh what captivates these two crazy boys?
and now they look a bit conserned...

A tractor digging on the train tracks!!!
Life does not get better then this for the Fontinell boys.

Halloween?

We went to the Felton Remembers parade this morning. It is an annual tradition that happens in Felton every Memorial Day.
I had never been to a parade that throws candy at all of the spectators, but this one does! (sponsored by dentists, perhaps) We go to see Fire trucks, horses, military jeeps, a girl with a chicken on her head, and the clampers all while being pelted with candy.
Fun times in the small town!

a recipe at last

On Thursday I made this for dinner. http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/food/recipes/teriyaki-chicken-lettuce-cups/ It was amazing how super quick it was and everyone loved it. (It is really hard to get 4 thumbs up in our house) The boys had it wrapped in a corn tortilla, but we had it in lettuce cups. The only bad part was that I was making rice to go with it and we only had brown rice which takes a looong time. Jack and Luke couldnt wait so we had lots of left over rice (perfect for Jack's fave fried rice with egg) the next night.

Still 60%

As some of you may know, I have been working a part time 60% schedule since I came back from maternity leave with Luke. Well, I did work full time for one very long month in July last year, but pretty much it has been the 3 day a week thing. I was supposed to be coming back full time June 1 (great b'day present). We have been talking about me quiting working and staying home with the boys full time cuz both of us full time would be really hard on everyone...Then we found out that it would cost us $600 to go on Lorens health plan which seems like a very lot.

Well with the budgets the way they are, I have been asked if I want to extend my 60% schedule thru the end of August and possibly go permanently part time. Yeah! My health care benefits are much cheaper - least for now. This is all great so long as Loren still has a job next year! Budget cuts are scary.

Beach trip # 1

I am hoping that this is probably the first trip of many of the summer to the beach.
It was a bit cold but nice on the beach.

We headed out to the water after trekking all of our stuff to the firepit.
And, now we need a ton on stuff to go to the beach. We
have a blanket, towels, sippy cups, sun screen, buckets, shovels, rakes, a change of clothes, a few snacks, and thankfully, Uncle Jake had hot dogs and water.
Also smores!

We got to see lots and lots of pelicans heading north.
I had heard that they might be on the indangered list, but after the last few days of seeing tons of them, im not so sure I believe it!

afternoon at the beach 2

Jack is saying no way am I going anywhere near the ocean!

Luke took some time to warm up to it, but did go in the water.

They had the best time digging a big hole with their new friend back at the blanket.

Some like it hot

Well the sick kids are gone and hot and sticky kids are in. OMG it is sooooo hot. We headed out to the ocean today to go for a walk on west cliff again and it was kinda cool. But at home, 90 degrees. After the walk we tried to go for sushi but every place was closed. who knew that sushi places dont open till dinner on the weekends....could be a good business venture. Sushi is great to eat when it is hot. We went to mexican for lunch cuz we had to get the boys fed before heading home to ensure that they ate lunch before falling asleep in the car and they ate tons, seem to be feeling better.

Now I am really jonesing for a rock n roll roll with seaweed salad!

Here we go again

After a rousing 8-9 weeks of sick grown ups - mainly my mom, but i was sick a bit in April - we are back to sick kids. I am really, really tired of sick kids.

Jack had a few moments of puking and feeling blah, then an earache, but luckily he does not stay sick long. Luke on the other hand is sick forever. Poor little guy had a fever for like 5 days and finally seemed to beat it just as his nose started to run... He still has plenty of spunk and follows Jack everywhere, but i cant image how it will be when he is actually in school. I hope he doesnt pick up every thing that goes around. This year should be building his immunity, right?!

Luke and I had a great day going for a walk (stroller ride) on West Cliff. We saw the surfers waiting for the waves, dogs playing in the ocean, birds and flowers everywhere and a few guys shooting up. Keep Santa Cruz weird.

Wordless Wednesday a la Jack

Fun with blocks! Jack was very worried that Luke would knock over his amazing towers so he wanted me to take many pictures of them. Jack did most of the knocking down, but Luke did help out a bit, much to Jack's dismay.

More pix from our walk yesterday

Here is the meadow. It is covered in small flowers.

These little purple flowers (below) completely canvas the forest floor
Wild iris popped up too.
Lukes latest thing is to close his eyes for the picture. He crawled in to my lap wanted to take the picture, but would not open his eyes. He is not a fan of the flash!

May walk

Luke and I went to the park yesterday.
All the flowers are still blooming and it is really beautiful.

We saw lots of deer, and even met one on the redwood loop.
I have discovered that deer are not very photogenic. Every picture I have tried to take has turned out funky, course it could be me!

The coveted banana slug or "ana" as Luke calls it.

Are you looking at me? Stop taking pictures and break out the snack!

We sure are lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and have this great park across the street.

Happy Mothers day

We had a very nice day!

We went to the Felton fire department annual pancake breakfast (yeah for the firemen and firewomen) and to the beach boardwalk.

Jack had major issues about walking over the train trestle to get to the boardwalk....we are hoping it is a stage that he is going thru that he is so afraid of water. We had a great time digging in the sand and looking at all the crazy stuff on the boardwalk. Both boys were way afraid of the ocean.
Jack did go on a ride...but didnt like the corn dog and didnt want to got back to the car while going over the train tracks....for a kid who likes trains so much on tv, he sure doesnt seem to like them in person.

We all took a nap when we got home. We do live in paradise.

We survived

We made it thru Lorens camping trip with his school. Everyone is very, very happy to see daddy!

Jack woke at midnight on tuesday...puking his poor little guts out. He was so good that he called to me to say he was going to get sick and then waited till I got the bowl. We did this a few times through out the night... we didnt get much sleep and poor Jack was so lifeless on tuesday. It is so hard to see such an active little boy so clingy and weak. We watched lots of cartoons and he wanted me to hold him and give "lots hug kisses" all day. Luke was not amused at having to share his momma.

We are also now under attack by the ants. They are EVERYWHERE, but going no where so I can not tell where to spray to keep them out. The boys are really good at finding them (i suppose since they are so close to the ground) and stamping on them.

I have discovered that when loren is not here, I stay up too late. I watch lame tv and then read way too late into the night... I think cuz I figure I will be really tired and sleep rather then lay in bed and get freaked out by the night sounds. Felton has all sorts of night sounds like wild boar in the back yard, raccoons knocking over trash cans, "squirrels" in the attic and neighbors coming home late at night.

we've got a garden...

Loren and the boys worked really hard on building me a garden.
It is GREAT!

I already managed to kill one tomato, but planted more. I have a total of
8 tomato plants plus our back house girl planted 6. We should have no shortage
of tomatoes - less I manage to kill them all...but they are looking pretty
good now!

We also have jalapenos, squash, cucumbers, red bells, poblanos and a watermelon.
Now we just need to figure out a way to keep the deer out and we will be all set.

Happy monday

Luke learned a new word...mine. Everything is "mine" "mine" "mine". He sounds like the birds in Finding Nimo when they are going after the fish. Well it is all "mine" and "momma" all day loooonngg. We have no concerns about his language development. We had his stitches taken out today and he was quite the champ. Looks like the is gonna have a nice scar.

Loren left today for his camping trip with his kids (school kids) so it is just me and the boys for 3 days and 2 nights. I miss him already!
